After a three-week break, the F1 season has arrived at the Dutch Grand Prix. However, disappointingly, the KICK Sauber F1 team is still the slowest one on the field even after bringing upgrades. In fact, their fastest lap time this weekend is not obtained in qualifying but set by Zhou Guanyu in the second practice session. Obviously, whether in terms of car speed or team adjustments, the KICK Sauber F1 team is undoubtedly the last one. Under such circumstances, it is basically impossible to achieve a breakthrough of zero points this season.

Before this race, although there has been a huge personnel change at the top of the KICK Sauber F1 team, this does not seem to have brought any improvement to this already extremely poor team. Although the results of the two drivers in practice sessions did not show overly worrying signs, they still inevitably became the bottom team in qualifying.

Zhou Guanyu’s result is more than a second slower than his teammate Bottas. There should be some problems in the adjustments because he was leading Bottas by a lot in the second practice session. And the results achieved by the two drivers in qualifying are not as fast as the speed set by Zhou Guanyu in the second practice session. This is clearly a problem with the team’s adjustments. Zhou Guanyu himself also said after the race that the adjustments the car underwent before qualifying actually magnified the problem. After they changed the adjustments to be more suitable for heavy fuel, the speed in dry conditions became even slower.

Let’s take a look at Bottas. Although he achieved a good result, he is still far behind the speed of the drivers in front. Obviously, the speed of the KICK Sauber F1 car cannot be compared with that of other teams. And after their main rivals like the Williams F1 team, the Alpine F1 team, the Toro Rosso F1 team, and the Haas F1 team have all made some improvements, in contrast, the Sauber F1 team is the only team that has not had any improvement in speed this season.
It can be said that whether in terms of qualifying or the race, they are far behind other teams. Under such circumstances, if they want to compete for points, they can basically only rely on the favor of fate.
